Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd offers a variety of ways to get involved in music programs – from vocal to handbell choirs. Select any of the following topics for more information…
Senior Choir rehearses on Wednesdays, 7:30-8:45pm, September through May. The Senior Choir typically sings in worship three Sundays per month as well as for special festivals and events. Any adult who is willing to commit to regular attendance is welcome to participate. Please contact Stephanie Davis if you are interested in participating.
Good Shepherd Bells
The Good Shepherd Bells rehearse Monday evenings from 6:00-7:00pm. They typically ring in worship once/month in addition to special festivals and seasons.
Ability to read music and experience with ringing handbells are helpful, but not necessary. Many of our ringers have learned through “on the job” training. In fact, ringing in the handbell choir is a terrific way to learn how to read music more fluently. Please contact Stephanie Davis if you are interested in participating.
The Youth Choir (formerly Treble Choir) rehearses during the school year with rehearsals on Sundays, 12:15-1:15pm (following the second service) and on Wednesdays, 4:45-5:45pm (between the two Confirmation classes). Youth attend whichever rehearsal fits their schedule.
The Joyful Singers, for children in 3rd-6th grades, rehearses each Wednesday from 6:15-7:15pm (concurrent with the Cherub Choir). The choir typically sings in worship once or twice each month. We use the Royal School of Church Music’s Voice for Life curriculum to help children learn about singing, music reading, and participation in a choir.
The Joyfuls also present a musical in worship twice each year (fall and spring), in addition to participating in festivals and special events.
The Joyful Singers go to Softie’s or DQ 3-4 times each year, usually the rehearsal following a major performance and when we have sleep-overs.
The Cherub Choir is a “training choir” for children in Kindergarten through 2ndgrade. They rehearse each Wednesday from 6:15-6:45pm (concurrent with the Joyful Singers) or longer, depending on the children’s attention spans. They sing in worship when they are ready, typically every 4-6 weeks. The choir is led by Kelsey Weatherford. Emphasis is on learning to participate in the choir setting, learning to sing, making friends, and having fun at church. Kids get to go to Softie’s or DQ once or twice per year with the Joyful Singers.
Stephanie Davis teaches piano/organ lessons to children during the school year. With only 12 slots available, her studio is usually full and interested children/families are added to a waiting list with siblings of current students getting first priority. Children do not need to be members of the church. Contact Stephanie for more information.
