Lectors

Public scripture reading is not only an important ministry, but a central focus in our worship life together. Since worship is an opportunity to engage with God, the Word of God must figure prominently.

Readers are encouraged to prepare prior to worship by reading the assigned passages several times out loud considering the way in which it is read will affect its interpretation.

Readers are asked to show up 10-15 minutes prior to worship to do a sound check so that they might be heard. If you are comfortable working with a microphone, can articulate clearly and have a confidence in front of a group and camera, this is a ministry in which you can serve.

If interested, please contact the church office and they will put you in contact with the lector coordinator.

Greeters

Greeters are often the first members of the congregation that people meet upon arrival at church.

It is a very public ministry that profoundly affects the quality and spirit of each worship service as the greeter reflects Good Shepherd’s nature and mission from the moment people reach the door.

Greeters welcome all who come as though they were welcoming Jesus himself. It may sound daunting, but if you can offer a warm greeting and a smile, this is a ministry in which you can serve.

If you’re interested, contact the church office. Please show up at least 15 minutes before the service with a smile. Try to make them feel welcome, and if you see them afterwards, give them a parting smile.

Ushers

Ushers are often the second point of contact, after the greeters, for people who have come to church. Ushers are a tremendous force in setting the stage for people to encounter God in worship.

Ushers show up 20-30 minutes prior to the service to help in any final preparations and prepare to welcome all who come in a spirit of openness and welcome. The usher continues this spirit throughout the service, helping people find a seat, assisting with the offering and communion, supporting special moments within worship and getting an accurate count of worship attendees.

If you’re interested, please contact the church office and they will put you in contact the usher coordinator.
